Robin Roberts teaches me courage and belief in myself. She knew she wanted to be a sportscaster, and with faith in her abilities, she went after the dream. But a dream reached is a doorway we pass through, and once we have, growth requires us to set our hearts on another goal. I admire Roberts for her work on ESPN and her daring to re-dream and take on Good Morning America.
Stricken with hardships that would topple others: afraid for her family after Hurricane Katrina; suffering breast cancer; and (MDS) a bone marrow disease, she never gave up. Each time she fought fear and held on. It’s always fear we must combat first. When we do, doors open.
On Oprah’s Master Class, Roberts said, “Optimism is a muscle that gets stronger with use.” For proving this to me, and countless others, I thank her.
